Grana Padano shows quite a bit of similarity to Parmigiano-Reggiano in terms of fat, protein and calorie content, but it is higher in calcium and lower in cholesterol and sodium. One tablespoon of shaved Grana Padano Riserva will yield a modest 20 calories and 1.5 grams of fat, along with 35 mg of sodium and 2 grams of protein.

The vats used for the manufacture of Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano cheeses have a capacity of 10-12 hl and, traditionally, have the shape of an inverted bell. Versus grana padano. Grana Padano is similar to Parm Reg, from the same region. Usually less expensive. I prefer Pecorino pizza/pasta as it adds a nice bit of saltiness, plus is more economical. Cheese purists might say that putting (real) reggiano on Pizza is a bit of a waste.
The difference in taste between the two is indisputable: the delicate flavour of Grana Padano is revealed in the melting texture on tasting. On the other hand, the straw-yellow paste of Parmigiano Reggiano has got a savoury aroma reminiscent of milk.
